Outline of Jakarta Fishing PortThe Jakarta Fishing Port - JFP (Pelabuhan Perikanan Samudera Jakarta - PPSJ, known popularly as Pelabuhan Muara Baru) has played an important role in fishery activities of the capital city since the commencement of public operation in July 1984. JFP was constructed by the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries (DGCF), Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) under the financial assistance of JICA (Japan International Corporation Agency) through ODA (Official Development Assistance) Loan. JFP is the modern fishing port, throughout the nation with the substantial magnitude, fully functional and fully capable of accommodating and servicing the ocean going fishing vessels and/or refrigerated fish carrier vessels in international trade, as well as for handling of high value fish for export marketing. JFP in particular serves not only as a fishing port but also the largest fish marketing and distribution center for domestic wholesale trading. It also serves as a center of processing fish, shrimps and other marine products for export likewise, this port plays the role of an export shipment originating point not only for frozen fish and processed seafood, which are normally shipped in refrigerated containers or by refrigerated carrier vessels, but also for fresh fish air freighted to overseas destination.
